PROJECTS

The Disparity Reduction Programme aims to improve access to and quality of basic health, education, and social services in five Governorates (Deir Ezzor, Raqqa, Hassakeh, Aleppo, and Idleb). Several themes comprise the nature of this programme, including Early Childhood Development, Healthy Villages and Girls’ Education.

The Support to National Policy and Development Programme contributes to government efforts to sustain, consolidate and extend achievements in the health and education sectors, and to reach the remaining World Summit goals. The programme emphasis is on introducing policies and strategies for improving maternal and child health, with a focus on Integrated Management for Childhood Illness (IMCI), women’s and adolescent health, HIV/AIDS and nutrition. The programme also contributes to improving the quality and relevance of primary schooling, so that the primary school system is more effective in imparting the literacy, numeracy, critical-thinking and life skills needed by young people in today’s Syria.

The Promotion of Children’s and Women’s Rights Programme aims to build a climate of concern for children’s and women’s rights, and to create an environment favourable for full implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Further, it focuses on children in need of special protection, such as children in conflict with the law, children of divorced parents, disabled children and working children.

The Palestinian Refugee Programme aims to provide assistance to Palestinian refugee children and women in the refugee camps in Syria.  UNICEF, through its main partner, the General Authority for Palestine Arab Refugees (GAPAR), supports the provision of vaccines, training of health workers and capacity building in special areas of education such as Health Education, Global Education and Child Rights.   Recently, the concept and practices of “Healthy Camp” have been introduced.
